
Nir J. Shaviv is a full professor at the Racah Institute of Physics, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His work spans high-energy astrophysics, radiation-dominated flows, cosmic rays, Galactic structure, and the possible links between cosmic rays and climate variability.
He has worked on super-Eddington stars and winds, classical novae, high-accretion-rate disks, neutron-star physics, cosmic-ray propagation in the Milky Way, and long-term terrestrial climate. His research includes the role of porous atmospheres in allowing very luminous systems to remain stable, the prediction and discovery of precursor brightenings before some supernova explosions, and the use of cosmic-ray records to probe the Solar System's motion through the Galaxy.
He has authored or co-authored more than 80 refereed journal publications. He is on the editorial board of Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (JCAP), served as chairman of the Racah Institute of Physics, and chaired the 71st annual meeting of the Israel Physics Society.
